About Us

The Coalition Against Vulnerable Adult Abuse (CAVAA) has been working since 2002 to develop a working agreement between primary agencies likely to become involved with identifying and referring possible cases of abuse and exploitation of vulnerable adults (18 and older) in Shiawassee County.

Mission Statement

To create a commitment within our community to the rights of vulnerable adults to be free from abuse, neglect, and exploitation through a cooperative approach that emphasizes dignity, respect, safety, and independence.

Task Force Goals

  1. To develop a vulnerable adult abuse protocol for Shiawassee County.

  2. To raise awareness and provide education to the community in identifying factors that lead to abuse, neglect, and exploitation.

  3. To encourage the development of programs and services to prevent abuse, neglect, and exploitation.

  4. To coordinate the reporting and investigation of suspected incidents of abuse, neglect, and exploitation.

  5. To prosecute to the highest extent of the law those who violate Michigan law pertaining to vulnerable adults.

The Coalition Against Vulnerable Adult Abuse (CAVAA) consists of agency staff and community representatives concerned about vulnerable adults in Shiawassee County. The Task Force supported formation of a workgroup to write a protocol addressing the abuse, neglect, and exploitation of seniors and other vulnerable adults of our community.
